Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
Art Market Research Developments Ltd respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use www.artmarketresearch.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.
We are the data controller for that information. Art Market Research Developments Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 09096620, at 34 Breton House, Barbican, London EC2Y 8DQ. You can reach us about anything in this policy at s.duthy@artmarketresearch.com.
What we collect
If you create an account
Your email address and a password, which is stored in hashed form by our authentication provider and is never visible to us. We also hold a profile record for your account and any work you save in it, such as saved indexes and cases.
If you contact us
Your name, email address, the type of enquiry, and the message you write. This is emailed to us and we reply to you directly.
When you use the site
Standard technical information reaches our server with every request, including your IP address and the browser and operating system you are using.
Where you are signed in and run a search in our tools, we record which search you ran, how many results it returned, and whether it succeeded — linked to your account. We record the search parameters, not free text you may have typed.
Your IP address is used to check the anti-spam challenge on the contact form and to limit how many messages can be sent from one address in a short period. It is held in memory for that purpose and is not written to our database.
What we do not collect
We do not take payments on this website and we never see your card details. Purchases, subscriptions and data licences are arranged directly with us, so there is no checkout on the site and no payment information passes through it.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking technology, and we do not build a profile of you or sell, rent or share your data for marketing by anyone else.
Why we are allowed to use it
Under UK data protection law we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract— to give you access to an account and the services you have taken, and to deal with your enquiry.
- Legitimate interests— to keep the site secure, to prevent spam and abuse, and to understand which parts of our tools are used so we can improve them. We only rely on this where your rights do not override it.
- Consent— for marketing emails, where you have opted in. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation— where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.
Who processes it for us
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We use a small number of service providers who process it on our instructions:
- Supabase— accounts, sign-in and the database holding your profile and saved work.
- Resend— sending email, including contact-form messages and account emails such as sign-in links and password resets.
- Cloudflare— the Turnstile challenge that keeps automated submissions off our contact form.
- Amazon Web Services— hosting for the website and our auction price database.
We may also disclose information to professional advisers, or to authorities where the law requires it or to protect our rights.
Transfers outside the UK
These providers operate internationally, so personal data may be processed outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the data protection terms of our agreement with the provider, which are intended to give the data the protection UK law requires.
If you want to know where a particular provider processes data, or to see the safeguards that apply, please ask us and we will tell you.
How long we keep it
- Your account, profile and saved work— for as long as your account is open.
- Search activity— retained while your account is open. If your account is deleted, the link to you is removed and what remains cannot be traced back to you.
- Enquiries— kept as business correspondence for as long as we may need to refer to them, then deleted.
- Records we must keep by law— for the period the law requires.
When an account is deleted, the account, its profile and its saved work are permanently removed together.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. They are strictly necessary for the site to work, they carry no advertising or analytics, and they are not used to track you across other websites. That is why you are not asked to consent to cookies here — there are none that require it.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but you will not be able to stay signed in.
Automated processing
Our valuation and index tools are automated, but they analyse artworks and auction records, not you. We do not make automated decisions about individuals that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.
Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss or misuse, including encrypted connections, access controls on our databases, and administrative functions restricted to named accounts.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your rights, we will notify you and the Information Commissioner as the law requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Have inaccurate data corrected.
- Have your data deleted.
- Ask us to restrict how we use it.
- Object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interests.
- Receive data you gave us in a portable, machine-readable form.
- Withdraw consent to marketing at any time.
To exercise any of these, email s.duthy@artmarketresearch.com. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Any change is published on this page with a new revision date, and this page is the definitive version.
